An SEO ranking report that leads to a decision.
Explain what changed, which pages are affected and what to investigate next, without confusing rankings with traffic or revenue.
Start with the question your report needs to answer
An SEO ranking report should help someone make a decision. “Which landing pages need attention this week?” is more useful than a long list of positions without context. Define the keyword set, search market, device and comparison dates before interpreting a change.
SerpToday provides saved keyword positions and ranking URLs for that review. Its on-demand Improve Rankings analysis is a separate page-focused report with its own allowance. Opening an existing saved analysis and requesting a new analysis are different actions; review your account balance before generating another.
The six fields that make a ranking report useful
Include the keyword, current recorded position, comparison position, ranking URL, observation date and search environment. Add the number of keywords with usable results so the reader understands the coverage.
Keep the same keyword set across comparison periods or explain additions and removals. A better average after removing difficult keywords is a different result from the original keywords improving. Do not present those two situations as equivalent.
Worked example: improvement without overstating the result
Consider three sample terms: a beginner guide moves from 18 to 11, a product category stays at 6, and a comparison page moves from 9 to 13. The first improved by seven positions, the second stayed stable and the third dropped four. These are illustrative numbers, not customer results.
The practical summary is that one guide improved and one comparison page needs review. It is not proof that traffic or revenue increased. Inspect query demand and actual analytics before making that claim, and check whether each term still points to the intended landing page.
Use keyword ranking analysis to prioritize changes
For a keyword that slipped, inspect the ranking URL first. A different page appearing can change the diagnosis. Next compare the search intent and the useful information offered by competing pages. Look for a specific gap you can address rather than adding the phrase repeatedly.
For an improving keyword, check whether the movement persists and whether the destination is relevant. Protect the useful content and investigate opportunities on related pages. Prioritize work by business relevance as well as position.
A practical report structure you can reuse
Write a short summary of the reporting window and search conditions. Follow it with the meaningful gains and drops, links to affected pages, a note about missing or limited observations, and a small list of proposed actions. Assign an owner and a review date to each action in your own workflow.
Export keyword data as CSV when you need a spreadsheet review. Check the included columns and keep the country, language, device and observation dates with the file. A CSV is a snapshot; it will not refresh automatically after export.
Free tracking versus an on-demand AI report
You can start monitoring 10 keywords with Free Forever. AI analyses, manual rechecks and content creation have separate balances; do not assume unlimited free reports because daily tracking is free. The pricing page and your account show current allowances.
An AI recommendation is a suggested investigation, not a guaranteed ranking fix. Review the evidence and apply only changes that improve the page for its audience. Then return to a comparable reporting window to assess what happened.
Tracking, usage and account questions
Is an SEO ranking report the same as a traffic report?
No. A ranking report describes search positions. Traffic and conversion reports measure visits and actions. Use both to judge useful outcomes.
Can I create an SEO ranking report for free?
Free Forever tracks 10 keywords. You can review their results; on-demand AI reports use the separate allowance in your account.
How should I describe a missing ranking?
State the tracked range, observation time and data limitation. Do not label an unavailable result as position zero or assume that it proves deindexing.
